Bloomington Rotary Wraps Up Centennial Celebration with $116,440 in Gifts
The Bloomington Rotary Club recently presented $116,440 to three local nonprofits, as the culmination of a year-long recognition of 100 years of Rotary in Bloomington. Club members celebrated with a hat toss.
Jeff Baldwin received a gift of $100,000 on behalf of Boys & Girls Clubs of Bloomington. Baldwin noted, “We are so grateful for the support of Bloomington Rotary. We plan to use the gift to build a playground at our Crestmont Club, benefitting the children who need us most.”
Tina Peterson and Megan Niese received a $10,440 contribution to the Bloomington Rotary Fund at the Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County. The funds will add to the club’s endowment, which supports scholarships for high school and Ivy Tech students.
Cyrilla Helm received a $6,000 check on behalf of the Teachers Warehouse Fund at the Foundation of Monroe County Community Schools. In addition, Helm made a surprise announcement of $10,000 in anonymous contributions to the endowment for Teachers Warehouse.
The January 8 presentations and hat toss celebrated the end of a year of remembering Rotary’s lasting contributions to the community over 100 years; continuing active service to the community, including planting more than 300 trees and many other hands-on projects; hosting Rotary International President Ian Riseley at an elegant Centennial Gala; and investing in the future, through major gifts to the Boys & Girls Club playground, scholarships, and Teachers Warehouse.
